I realized the “Box Stitch Special” pattern could easily be adapted into a wearable scarf or muffler, so I thought I'd go ahead and include it here, and this can be kind of like a free intro into the whole blanket. Please bear in mind the picture is of a folded lap throw and does not show the beginning rows.

Looking for a Halloween project? Okay, so maybe not so hot in the featured colors for that but the right colors would really make it. And it looks a lot more like a web when finished in one solid color. However that particular square went into a blanket before I got a camera picture, but I had scanned it for reference for my pattern so its image is below the instructions.

Clustered Granny Circle dc cluster: Note on beginning: it works better to ch 2 rather than 3, then upon finishing sl st into the top st. dc cluster: ch 2, start a 2nd dc but don't finish it and keep the last loop on the hook, repeat the last step; finally yarn-over and pull the thread through all the loops to make the cluster. The ch 1 that finishes it generally isn't included as part of the cluster.

Inspired by the rag rugs of years gone by, I originally designed this pattern based on the popular box stitch for a “fixer upper” but it can be adapted to almost any decorating style. Use as few or as many colors as desired. Size is determined by the maker, not the pattern; length can be stopped at any time and finished off with a border (instructions at end of pattern) or simple hdc row. They say there's no such thing as an original idea, and I know in my case that's true, but I do get a lot of inspiration from various things I see. I have pages and pages of ideas I'd like to turn into creations some time but time is not in my favor. I have managed a few so far and here are the blankets I was inspired to make, and wrote up in pattern form as well.

'Owling Granny I am pretty sure this was the first granny square blanket I made. So firstly here is a sample of what it looked like after I had stitched it together. And the reason it's only a sample is because like I said, these pictures were taken for my reference and this one was in the worst-lit room in our abode.
