Ch 4 or 6, attach with sl st to form ring (some prefer using a Magic Circle).

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (1st dc), 11 dcs in ring, connect with sl st in top of original ch 3

Rnd 2: sc in next st or attach new color and sc; ch 3, sc in next dc; ch 3, sc once for each dc (total of 12 3-ch loops) using sl st in base of beg st to close rnd

Rnd 3: sl st into base of 1st ch 3; if keeping same color sl st into ch 3, if changing color make a sc connect in 3-ch loop of previous round; *ch 4, sc in next loop; repeat from * for each loop, (12 loops total), sl st to beginning of first loop to close rnd

Rnd 4: (Each side has 3 loops, corners after third loop) Sl st into sp or attach new color between ch 4 loops, ch 6 (counts as dc, ch 3), dc (corner); *sc, ch 3 in each of next 3 loops; corner between 3rd and 4th loops; repeat from * around, attach to top of 1st ch 3 (8 ch-3 loops, 4 ch-3 corners, 8 dc)

Rnd 5: sl st into corner of prev rnd or attach new color; ch 3 (counts as dc), dc, ch 3, 2 dc (corner); *2 dc between dc and sc, 3 dc in ch 3 sp, 1 dc in sc, 3 dc in ch 3 sp, 2 dc between sc and dc of previous round; (corner); repeat from * (15 st per side)

Rnd 6: sl st into corner of prev rnd or attach new color; ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc (corner), *hdc in dc, ch 1, skip st, hdc in next dc, ch 1 across, repeat hdc, ch 1 across to hdc in last dc; (corner); repeat from * around, sl st into top of ch 2. (19 st per side)

Rnd 7: sl st into corner of prev rnd or attach new color; ch 3 (counts as dc), dc, ch 3, 2 dc (corner); dc in ea of 3 hdcs, 1 dc in each st and ch 1 sp across, (corner); continue dcs and cornering around, sl st into top of original ch 3. (total of 23 dc per side)

Rnd 8: Repeat Rnd 6 with increased stitches to match scale.
